Just crossed 10,000 photos in my deep space collection

Last night I hit 10,000 raw frames of deep space objects from my backyard setup. That's three years of shooting every clear night I could get. Most of them are garbage - clouds, tracking errors, or just plain bad focus. But it still felt like a big number to see on my hard drive. I'm curious how many total frames other people here have stacked up before they felt like they had a solid set of keepers. Does anyone else track their total shots like that?

Emma that's exactly what I thought when I hit 10,000, it's such a weird mix of pride and embarrassment because so many of those frames are just trash. I actually keep a spreadsheet showing rejection rates per object, and my best keepers usually end up being around 20-30% of what I shot. It makes you appreciate the people who post those perfect images even more when you realize how much work it takes to get just a handful of good frames from a huge pile.

Wait, TEN THOUSAND? That is an ABSURD number of frames. I thought I was doing well when I hit 1,200 on the Orion Nebula and then deleted like half of them for having satellite trails. Three years of clear nights is some SERIOUS dedication, I can barely get out there two nights a week.

One time I spent six months stacking 14,000 frames of the moon before realizing my tracking was off the whole time.
