I was stacking 30 second exposures for nebula shots for a year before a guy at the Tucson star party told me my mount wasn't polar aligned right. My 'detail' was just trailing blur.

Man that's the worst. It's like spending forever learning a guitar solo only to find out you were tuned to the wrong note the whole time.

Ever try just tuning to the new note and playing it anyway? I had that happen with a bass line once, @taylor.amy. It felt totally wrong at first, but then I realized some of the shapes my fingers learned still worked. You might find your old practice wasn't all wasted, it just needs a small shift. The muscle memory is still there, you just have to adjust where you start from. It's frustrating but you can usually fix it without starting from zero.

Been there, @taylor.amy... my whole life is a wrong note.
