Finally got a decent shot of the Orion Nebula after someone told me my exposure times were way too short

Stick with it though, even the smudgy ones teach you something about framing or focus (or what not to do next time). Once you get that first clear shot it makes all the frustrating nights worth it.

Yeah, the exposure time thing is a game changer... I used to do like 30 second shots and wonder why everything looked so faint and noisy. Pushing it to a few minutes, even with a basic tracker, pulls out so much more detail and color. It's all about collecting enough light from those dim objects. My early attempts look like gray smudges compared to what I can get now just by being patient and letting the sensor soak it up.

Got it, but I've found stacking a bunch of shorter exposures works better for me. Less ruined by a gust of wind or a plane flying through.
