Drove out to Cherry Springs last weekend and saw someone using their phone flashlight to try and photograph the Milky Way

I get it, we all start somewhere but this guy was holding his phone up to his telescope eyepiece and wondering why the pics were blurry. I tried to help him out but he insisted his method was better. Spent like 20 minutes watching him get frustrated. Has anyone else run into people at dark sky spots who just refuse to take advice?

That guy sounds like a lost cause. Seen plenty like him at stargazing spots. They buy a cheap telescope from a department store then refuse any help because they watched one YouTube video. My favorite is when they blame the equipment instead of their method.

Yeah, "cheap telescope from a department store" is spot on. I've seen that exact scenario maybe half a dozen times at different spots. They get one of those 60mm refractors with a flimsy tripod, watch two minutes of a tutorial, and suddenly they're the expert. It's rough because you want to help them actually see something cool, but they just dig in harder. I usually just let them get frustrated until they ask for help now, saves me the headache.
