Used to be all about buying new furniture, now I'm a used furniture convert

I was that guy who always bought new from Ikea or Ashley. Thought used stuff was gross or worn out. Then my couch fell apart after 2 years. Got mad and bought a solid wood dining table off Facebook Marketplace for $80. That thing is 30 years old and built like a tank. Realized new furniture is mostly particle board garbage. Now I check Marketplace and estate sales first for anything big. Has anyone else made the switch from new to used?

Why would I want someone else's old farts and mystery stains on my stuff? New furniture at least comes with a warranty and I know exactly how clean it's been.

Oh man, the "mystery stains" thing always makes me laugh. I had a buddy who thought the same way, swore he'd never buy used furniture. Then his cat threw up on his brand new fabric sofa and it stained so bad he couldn't get it out. Meanwhile I've got a used leather couch from some older couple that they kept covered with sheets for 15 years, thing looks practically new. He finally caved and got a used dining set from an estate sale, still talks about how much better the wood is than anything he could buy today for the same money.
