TIL throwing $300 at a 'smart' thermostat was a total waste

I bought one of those fancy Nest thermostats last month thinking it would save me money... but all it did was argue with me about when to turn the heat on. The learning feature kept setting the temp to 62 at night and I woke up freezing. Did anyone else have to return theirs or did I just get a dud unit?

And @henderson.wesley is right, turning off the learning feature is the KEY to getting these things to work. You basically have to treat it like a dumb thermostat and set your own schedule in the app. Once I did that, it stopped being a pain and just did what I told it.

Turn the learning feature off manually in the settings. I had the same problem and it stopped fighting with me after that.

@henderson.wesley nailed it - that learning crap is useless.
