Serious question, has a random stranger's comment ever changed how you do something small?
I always killed the a/c at night and cracked a window to save power. Simple habit, been doing it for a long time. My neighbor Marcus came over for a beer back in April and asked why I turned my house into a swamp on purpose, because the humidity here in Charlotte hangs around 80 percent after dark. He said run the a/c low, not off, because it pulls the moisture out. I tried it for a month and my electric bill went up about $12, but I sleep way better and my window frames stopped sweating. Curious if anyone else has a small habit they changed because of one offhand remark.
Everybody in the south learns this eventually, but usually the hard way like you did. My old place had the same deal, single pane windows that would literally drip water down the glass every morning in summer. Landlord told me to stop fighting the air and just set it at 74 and let it run. Cost went up a bit but the mold smell in the closet went away, which was worth way more than 12 bucks. The other one I picked up from a guy at a parts counter was leaving the bathroom fan on a full 20 minutes after a shower instead of 2. No more peeling paint above the door. Funny how one random sentence saves you years of dumb habits.
