My uncle told me to always ask for the manager when a store says no, and it backfired at a Target in Spokane.
I tried it over a return on a $15 blender part they wouldn't take back, and the manager just repeated the same policy word for word. Has anyone actually had this advice work for them, or is it just a way to annoy retail workers?

Ugh, seriously? That advice is the worst. You just end up wasting everyone's time and looking rude.

Hold up, I gotta disagree here. Sometimes that move saves you from a way bigger mess later on. It feels awkward for a minute, but it's better than being stuck in a meeting or project that goes nowhere. Being clear early on is actually more respectful of everyone's time in the long run.

My track record with this is terrible. Last time I tried the "clear early on" move I ended up apologizing for three days straight. Saved a two hour meeting but created a whole new mess of awkward emails. Still figuring out the right balance.
