I was dead set against those smart thermostats until my December bill showed up
My buddy kept telling me to get one for like two years. I figured it was just another gadget that would break or spy on me (okay still a little paranoid about that). But then my heating bill hit $380 last winter in my old bungalow in Calgary. That hurt. So I caved and got an Ecobee on sale for $200. Three months later my gas bill dropped to around $220 on average. I still think they're a bit creepy but the savings are hard to argue with. Anyone else have a similar change of heart?

Oh, I just don't trust those things at all. The idea of my heating system being connected to the internet and someone potentially messing with it gives me the creeps, no matter how much money it saves.

Man, @paige86 I hear you on the creepy factor. My wife was the same way at first. But then I walked into my living room a few weeks ago and my cat had somehow bumped the thermostat up to 28 degrees while I was at work. That little furry menace cost me like 40 bucks overnight before I noticed. The smart thermostat is like having a babysitter that doesn't sleep and actually pays attention.
