Finally got my first freelance client after 47 cold emails yesterday

Sent out 47 cold emails over two weeks and the one reply came from a brewery in Portland who just needed a simple logo refresh, so I guess grinding actually works sometimes, anyone else hit a random lucky break after a ton of nothing?

Hold up, let me push back a little here. Getting one reply from 47 emails isn't really a "random lucky break" it's more like a normal probability thing with a sample size that's way too small to draw any conclusions from. That brewery job could be a total fluke, or they just needed anyone with a pulse and Photoshop, you know? The whole "grinding works" idea is nice but it kind of ignores that you sent out a ton of emails to mostly deaf ears, so your strategy might need a bigger overhaul than just sending more. If you'd sent 100 emails and got 3 replies, that'd be a pattern, but 47 to 1 is basically noise. I'd be more worried about whether your targeting or pitch is off rather than celebrating a single hit.

Honestly it kinda reminds me of this time my buddy tried to get a job at a vinyl pressing plant. He sent out like 80 emails and got one reply back too. The guy who replied was the owner's nephew and they were desperate for someone to clean the warehouse. He worked there for like two years and hated it the whole time. So yeah one reply out of 47 could be a sign you just found the one place that was already looking to hire anyone basically.
