Walking through the old part of town made me see the ground differently

I was in Boston last week, just looking at the cobblestones, and I realized they're not just old rocks. Each one was placed by a person hundreds of years ago, and that path has been walked on ever since. Do you ever get that feeling, like you're literally walking on history?

My heels still hurt from Boston's cobblestones, and I get what @sandrajackson means.

Honestly, cobblestones just make me think about sore ankles. That old part of my city is the same, and all I can focus on is how uneven and tricky it is to walk on. It's cool they're old, but sometimes history is just a tripping hazard.
