Tried using ground-penetrating radar in my backyard near the old creek bed

I spent $200 renting a GPR unit for a weekend to find buried artifacts from the 1800s and all I got was a mess of old sprinkler pipes and a rusted lawnmower blade, has anyone else had their backyard archaeology plans ruined by modern junk?

Man those old pipes are basically artifacts too.

Oh man, I used to totally roll my eyes at people complaining about modern junk messing with detector work, but after digging up my third rusty beer can in a row I get it now lol.

Have you tried learning the different tones in your detector for iron versus non-ferrous stuff? Most of the time those beer cans ring up a specific way, and once you learn the sound you can just skip them entirely. I also run my discrimination a little higher when I'm in a spot that's full of junk. Saves a lot of digging for trash. Not saying it's foolproof, a rusty can will still fool you sometimes, but it cuts down on the frustration. That's just what worked for me after a whole lot of pointless hole digging.
