The museum guide in Tucson claimed the pots were fakes and honestly she had a point
I was at the Arizona State Museum two weeks ago and a guide told our group that half the plainware on display was likely made by a local guy in the 1960s to fill out the collection. She pointed out the rims were too even and the clay had no grit in it, which nobody had cared to check for 40 years. If museums can quietly sit on stuff like that, how many small regional collections are basically full of souvenir shop pottery?
