That field school supervisor's trowel advice was completely backwards
My dig supervisor in Çatalhöyük insisted I scrape with the flat edge parallel to the wall, and after 3 weeks of crap context readings I flipped it perpendicular on a lark, suddenly I could actually see the stratigraphy lines. Has anyone else had a pro tell them a technique that just defies basic logic in the field?

Three weeks of garbage readings sounds about right for trusting the "expert" method, congrats on figuring out the obvious in time to save your project. Must be nice having a supervisor who never has to actually deal with their own advice.
