That conversation with a museum curator about pottery shards really got to me
I was at a dig in New Mexico last summer and she told me they throw away 90 percent of shards because they're too common to keep... it made me wonder how many small stories we're just dumping in the trash. Has anyone else ever found a piece of pottery that seemed like nothing but ended up being important?

Throwing away ninety percent feels like erasing most of the story.

Ask yourself what's the point of saving stuff that never gets watched? Isn't 10 percent of the best stuff worth more than a hundred percent of nothing?
