PSA: That farmer in Peru told me to brush dirt off bones with a toothbrush - bad advice

I was on a dig outside Cusco last spring. Local guy named Carlos said use a soft toothbrush on fragile bone. Sounded smart at first. After 3 days I saw fine scratches under a microscope. Ruined a set of rodent vertebrae. Should've used a wooden pick instead. Anyone else get bad field advice from locals?
