My 6 year old "helped" with my fossil prep and now there's glue on a 40 million year old fish
So I've been prepping this Green River fish plate I picked up at a rock shop in Kemmerer, Wyoming for about 3 weeks now, using a $40 engraver and way too much patience. Last Tuesday my 6 year old asked to help, and I figured sure, why not, I'll let him brush away some dust while I hold the plate steady. He grabbed the bottle of cyanoacrylate instead of the brush and squeezed it right onto the fossil before I could get it out of his hand. I spent 20 minutes with acetone and a toothpick trying to save it, and honestly it looks about the same, but I'm never letting anyone under 30 within 5 feet of my prep table again. Has anyone here actually rescued a fossil from a glue spill, or did I just make a permanent paperweight?
