I was sure the new site in Turkey was just another Roman villa...

The lead archaeologist kept pointing out the circular foundation stones, which made me think it was a temple instead. After they found a dedicatory inscription to Cybele last week, I had to admit they were right. Anyone else been totally wrong about a site's initial purpose?

Totally thought it was just a fancy house too... but those round stones really do point to a temple. Finding that Cybele inscription would've changed my mind for sure.

Circular stones could still be for a villa's fancy garden feature.

Nah, that's a stretch.

Yeah, been there with a site we thought was a granary until the small offering pits showed up. Robin_henderson81 has a point about garden features, but those round foundations usually mean something special was built to be walked around, like a shrine. The Cybele find just seals it, idk.
