I finally got to help with a dig at the old mill site in my hometown

They let me sift through a small section near the foundation last Tuesday. Found a piece of pottery with a maker's mark from a local company that shut down in 1923. It was just a small shard, but it proves they were using that building way earlier than the records showed. The lead archaeologist said it was a 'key find' for dating the site's first phase. Honestly, I was just happy to be there and not mess anything up. Has anyone else had a small find turn out to be more important than they thought?

Nice! I found a rusty nail that totally changed a house's timeline once.

But a nail, @finley729... really?

Used to think that was silly until a bent nail proved a whole wall was out of line.
