I finally got to help on a dig and immediately broke a trowel
Honestly, I was volunteering at a site in Flagstaff and got way too excited scraping at what looked like a pottery shard. Ngl, I snapped the tip right off a brand new Marshalltown trowel on a rock. Has anyone else had a tool disaster that bad on their first day?

My cousin borrowed my metal detector once and swung it into a low tree branch. The coil snapped clean off the shaft. He tried to fix it with duct tape, which just made it worse. The whole thing was a total loss.

Ugh, that's brutal. I read a forum post once where a guy ran over his own detector with his truck. The coil was crushed into pieces. He said it sounded like stepping on a giant bug. At least your cousin tried to fix it, even if tape was a hopeless idea. Some people just hand back broken stuff and say nothing.

Yeah, that crunch sound is the worst. I dropped mine down a flight of concrete stairs and it made a similar noise. Some gear just can't survive its own user.
