Dropped $120 on a ground-penetrating radar rental and got nothing but false positives

Oh man, that hurts. I once rented a metal detector for a weekend and spent like three hours digging up a bunch of old bottle caps and a weird rusty spring before realizing I was waving it over a buried cable line. False positives are the worst, they just get your hopes up for nothing. Maybe try running it over a spot that's already known to have something buried, like a friend's backyard pipe, just to see if it's even working right?

False positives are everywhere once you start paying attention, not just with metal detectors. My husband spent an hour trying to find the source of a weird noise in the car, turns out it was just a loose cup holder. It's like life gives you all these false alarms just to test your patience. You start to wonder if anything is ever actually what it seems at first glance.
