2 years of aerial photos showed me what I missed about that Roman villa site

I always thought that big grassy field in Wiltshire was just empty, but after comparing drone shots from 2020 and 2023 you can see the whole foundation outline appear from the drought. Anyone else have a site that only showed up after a dry summer?

That's actually really cool that you caught that change over time. I've seen similar things happen with old Celtic fort sites where the outlines pop out during dry spells. Nothing beats seeing hidden history just appear like that.

Pretty sure those outlines are just from modern farming drainage patterns or recent ground disturbance, not anything historical. Most of what people call "crop marks" are just differences in soil moisture hitting fertilizer spread patterns. Unless someone digs it up and finds actual artifacts, it's just pareidolia getting people excited.
