That old arborist in Tallahassee told me to cut my pruning paints with water and I thought he was crazy

Tried it on a batch of 50 oaks last spring and the wounds healed noticeably faster with no extra decay, so I guess he was right after all - has anyone else thinned their paints like that or is this just a Florida thing?

I mean thinning it sounds risky for infection.

Thinning sounds risky for infection" is exactly what my buddy said before he thinned out his bonsai tree collection. Thing is, he forgot to sterilize his tools between cuts and the whole batch got some kind of bacterial rot. Took him months to save even a few of them.

Nah, I've done it for years with no issues. Thin away.
