Spent $400 on a microspike kit for my climbing boots and it was a total game changer
I always thought they were just for ice climbers and a waste of cash for regular tree work. Then I had a big removal on a steep, muddy slope after a rainstorm in early spring. My foreman let me borrow his pair for the day and I didn't slip once, even on the greasiest roots. Bought my own set the next week and it's the best safety gear I've added besides my helmet. Anyone else use these for tricky ground conditions?

Right? I borrowed a set for a slick riverbank job and felt glued to the ground. Total no-brainer purchase after that.

Read an article about trail runners using them for muddy spring hikes. Makes sense they'd help on a work site too.

Oh man, I was totally in the same boat. I mean, I used to see guys wearing those microspikes and just figured they were overkill or honestly just for show. I had that exact same rainy slope problem on a backyard job last fall though, and my buddy handed me his pair out of pity. I nearly ate it on the first root I stepped on without them. After that day I went straight to the shop and grabbed my own set. It's funny how you can be so sure something's a waste of money until you actually try it and realize you were completely wrong the whole time.
