Serious question about how you guys notch your trees...
I was up on a big oak in Rockville last Tuesday and realized I've been cutting my notch wrong for like 5 years. My old timer buddy watched me make one cut and just shook his head... told me I was leaving too much hinge wood on the back cut side. He showed me how a proper 70 degree notch actually controls the fall direction way better. Has anyone else had that moment where you found out a basic cut you thought you knew was totally off?

Same here @dianal94, I felt like an idiot after realizing I’d been cutting notches wrong for years.

That 70 degree tip changed everything for me too.

I read somewhere that the 70 degree angle helps keep the blade from binding in thicker cuts.
