Rant: I read that a single mature oak can drop over 10,000 acorns in a good year

I was looking up some local tree data for a job in Springfield and found that stat in a forestry extension article. It just blew my mind thinking about the cleanup, let alone the potential for new seedlings. Has anyone else come across a tree fact that made you rethink a common job?

Wait, 10,000 from just one tree? That's an insane amount of nuts to deal with. I can't even imagine the mess in someone's yard. It makes you respect landscapers a whole lot more.

Seriously, that's a squirrel's lottery right there. Picture trying to walk across that yard without twisting an ankle. My neighbor has one oak and we get maybe a hundred, and that's bad enough. I'd need a snow shovel just for the acorns. Forget mowing the lawn, you'd be running a nut harvester all fall.

I'd take the acorns over raking leaves any day.
