Pro tip: stop climbing with a pole saw, I switched to a handsaw after what happened in Tacoma
For 8 years I lugged a 12 foot pole saw up every removal because my first lead in Tacoma said it was faster than tying in twice, but after a 40 foot cottonwood limb popped back and smacked my bar into my lanyard I finally tossed it. Now I make two tie-ins and cut everything with a 24 inch handsaw, which adds maybe 15 minutes per tree but my hands and my rope are still in one piece. Anyone else made this switch, or am I just getting slower and more scared with age?
Been running a pole saw for years and never had anything close to that happen. Sounds like a freak thing with a cottonwood, those limbs are known to do weird stuff when they pop. Not saying switch back but 15 min a tree adds up, that's like an extra job every couple weeks.
