My uncle insists on helping with stump grinding, but I say no.
It's not safe for untrained relatives to be near heavy equipment.

Uncles always want to help, but stump grinding is no joke. Those machines throw wood chips like bullets and can cause serious harm in seconds. An untrained person might not know how to stay clear of the cutting wheel or handle kickback. It's smart to say no, even if it hurts his feelings. Safety should always come before family pride when heavy gear is involved. Tell him you'd rather keep him in one piece for the next barbecue.

Last year in Ohio, a homeowner's insurance claim was denied after a relative got hurt using rented equipment. Tbh, most policies won't cover injuries to unpaid helpers, especially if they're not trained. You could be stuck paying for doctor visits and lawyer fees if there's an accident. Honestly, it's not just about safety, it's about protecting yourself from huge costs.

Honestly this is so true... my cousin wanted to help me run a rented wood chipper once and it was a hard no. The thing can grab a sleeve or pant leg in a split second if you're not paying full attention. Saw a video where a hidden piece of rebar in a branch got launched straight through a car door. You feel bad saying no to family who just want to help, but man, watching someone get hurt because you said yes is way worse.
