Just realized the way we used to anchor ropes for climbs is almost forgotten now

I was cleaning out my gear shed and found my old leather harness and natural fiber ropes. We used to tie everything by hand, knowing each knot had to hold your weight. Now, everyone uses quick-connect carabiners and pre-made systems. Sure, it's faster, but I miss the feel of a well-tied bowline. Back then, you really learned the tree's structure because you had to plan each move. These days, I see new guys relying on gear over skill. It feels like we're losing part of the craft. What do you think, has safety gear made us less careful?

Modern gear prevents way more accidents than old methods ever could.

What about that time my grandpa fixed a fence with just rope and know-how?

Ever wonder if fewer accidents just means we take bigger risks now? Does the gear make us feel too safe?
