Hot take: rigging a 60 foot oak over a koi pond took 4 days, not 1
Last week I bid a removal at a place off Route 9 in Poughkeepsie thinking it was a clean 6 hour job, but a buried sprinkler line and a koi pond turned it into 4 days of piecing out 2 foot sections. Half the crew says we should have just brought in a crane and been done, the other half says the tight lawn made that impossible without tearing up the whole yard. What's your call on when a crane is worth the extra $1,200 versus just grinding it out by hand?
Four days of piecing out two foot sections over a koi pond sounds like the tree was just trolling you at that point. A crane is worth it when it saves your back and your sanity, but if the lawn is that tight you're trading tree damage for turf repair, so it's kind of a wash. Sometimes eating the extra day beats writing a check to fix a torn up yard.
