Hit 2,000 trees pruned this week and the last one nearly took me out
I keep a little tally in my work journal, nothing fancy, just a running count. This past Wednesday I finished up job number 2,000 for the year out in Maplewood, a big old silver maple that needed some serious limb work. The irony hit me hard when that last branch I cut swung back and whacked me right in the helmet, a real humbling milestone. Has anyone else had a satisfying number or goal sneak up on them like that?

Trees: 1, Sam: 0. Rough way to celebrate.

The last time I tried to celebrate anything outdoors I ended up with a mouthful of gnats and a parking ticket. My neighbor Tim once ran into a tree branch so hard he got a concussion and then tried to argue with the paramedic about whether it was technically a "headbutt" situation. Trees are sneaky like that, they just sit there waiting for you to get distracted.

Haha, oh man, that's rough! My buddy Mike finally hit his 100th fence post one summer and celebrated by spiking his mallet, only to have it bounce back and nail him right in the shin. We still give him grief about how the work site basically fought back on his big moment. Gotta love that humble pie from a job well done.
