Had a client tell me their tree 'just knew' when to drop limbs

I was up in a 50 year old oak in Portland last spring, and the homeowner came out to chat while I was pruning. She said the tree dropped a big branch on her carport right after a dry spell, like it was trying to tell her something. Has anyone else run into folks who think trees are more sentient than they really are?

Read something similar about willows dropping branches during drought to conserve water.

Sycamores also self-prune limbs to reduce wind drag during storms.
