Finally got my rope management to stop being a total mess
For years, I just coiled my climbing line and threw it in the truck bed. It was always tangled, took forever to sort, and looked terrible. About six months ago, I watched a guy at a job in Springfield use a simple butterfly coil and a marlin spike hitch to make a neat, self-contained bundle. I practiced it for a week straight after work. Now my rope deploys clean every single time and packs up in under a minute. What other small technique changes have saved you guys a ton of time on site?

Is it really that big of a deal though?

Honestly, yeah, it is a big deal. A tangled rope is more than just messy, it's a safety risk when you're in a hurry and need a clear line. That minute you save packing up adds up over a week, and looking pro matters when clients are watching. It's one of those small habits that separates a sloppy job from a clean one.

Remember my buddy's rope getting caught in a chipper feed because it was a mess? That was a real bad day.
