Vent: My boss told me to use WD-40 on a washer bearing...

He swore it'd quiet it down for a few months, but it just made the drum seize up completely after three cycles. Customer was not happy when I had to come back and replace the whole motor assembly for $350. Has anyone else had a customer try that fix themselves first?

Seen this exact thing way too many times lol. WD-40 is a solvent and lube, not a grease, so it just washes the actual bearing grease out and then evaporates. Best you can do is tell people to leave bearings alone unless they're ready to swap em.

Once had a guy swear by bacon grease for squeaky hinges.

Wait, is this the same guy who uses mayonnaise to polish his car? Bacon grease would probably work for a minute until it goes rancid and starts smelling like a greasy spoon. Then you get to deal with a stuck hinge covered in old bacon fat and a trail of ants besides. Your mileage may vary but most stuff from the kitchen belongs in the kitchen, not on your door hinges.
