Shoutout to that old Frigidaire at a diner in Ohio last week

I was passing through Sandusky, Ohio, and stopped at a random diner for breakfast. Saw this Frigidaire refrigerator from like the 1950s in the back, still running. The owner said they only replaced the compressor once in 40 years. I popped the panel off and the wiring inside looked cleaner than some new units I fix. Has anyone else seen those old dinosaurs still kicking around in the wild?

That old Frigidaire you saw is a total legend. My grandpa had one in his garage that he bought secondhand in the '70s, and it finally gave out about five years ago after running nonstop. The thing outlasted three of his newer kitchen fridges by a mile. It's wild how those old units were built with thicker metal and simpler wiring that's easy to patch up. Always makes me wish they still made appliances that way instead of everything being planned to die after a few years. Good find, that diner is probably keeping that fridge for another twenty years if they're smart.

Seventy years and it only quit five years ago? That's absolutely insane. Ngl, I had to read that twice because that kind of lifespan sounds made up in this day and age. Must've been built like a tank with that thick metal and simple wiring.
