Overheard a customer at the parts counter say they just throw out any fridge making a weird noise
I was picking up a new start relay at my local supplier yesterday and the guy ahead of me was telling the clerk his fridge was humming loudly. The clerk asked a few questions, but the customer just said, 'Nah, it's easier to just order a new one.' It got me thinking about how many perfectly fixable units get scrapped over simple parts. I've pulled at least three compressors this month that just needed a hard start kit. Has anyone else run into this 'just replace it' attitude getting worse lately?

What if that noise was just a cheap part?

Seriously, it drives me nuts. My neighbor was ready to junk a perfectly good dryer because it was squealing. I popped the back panel off and found a worn idler pulley. Twenty bucks and ten minutes later, it was quiet as new. People just don't want to bother looking into it anymore, you know?
