My neighbor told me his old fridge has run for 40 years with just one service call
He said the repair guy back in '85 just replaced a simple start relay and told him to keep the coils clean. It made me realize we sometimes overcomplicate fixes on newer units when the basics still matter most. Anyone else have a story about an appliance that just won't quit?

Used to roll my eyes at my dad's old fridge, but that thing is a tank.

That line about overcomplicating fixes really hit home... I read an article once about a repair guy who said most dryer calls are just clogged vents or worn belts, but people get talked into whole new units. My grandma's washing machine from the 90s just needs the occasional new hose... it's all clunky and loud but it still cleans clothes. We're trained to think newer is always better, but simple maintenance gets ignored.

Honestly, I get the point but newer stuff is way more efficient. My power bill dropped a ton after I finally replaced my ancient fridge. Sometimes the upgrade is worth the hassle.
