Misdiagnosed a fridge twice because I skipped the condenser test
Charged a customer in Akron $180 for a new start relay, then $140 for a control board, before I finally tested the condenser coil voltage and found a bad fan motor. Should have run that check first, cost me two callbacks and a bruised reputation. Anyone else keep skipping the basic checks when the symptom points somewhere obvious?
The "symptom points somewhere obvious" trap is real, it's like your brain gets a reward for solving it fast so it stops looking. What got me was building a rule where the condenser check happens before I even touch the meter for ohms, no matter what the last call taught me. Costs two minutes and saves the whole afternoon.
