Just pulled a 10 year old dryer apart in an hour vs 4 hours on a new one
I had a 2014 Samsung that took me almost 4 hours to diagnose and fix last week. This morning I got a call for a 2005 Whirlpool, same issue no heat. I had the door switch bypassed and the thermal fuse replaced in under 60 minutes. The old stuff is just way simpler to work on with the wiring diagrams right on the inside panel. Anyone else noticing newer machines taking way longer to figure out?

Nah, I gotta push back on this one. That old Whirlpool might be quick to tear apart, but good luck finding parts for it in another couple years. Meanwhile that Samsung is built way more efficient even if it's a pain to work on, uses less power and dries faster when it's running right. Plus the wiring diagram thing is kind of moot when you can pull up a service manual on your phone in 30 seconds for any newer model.

Honestly, this whole thing feels like we're arguing about which flavor of expensive headache tastes better. You can pull up a manual on your phone, sure, but that Samsung's probably gonna brick itself before the Whirlpool even considers acting up. Is it really that deep?

You make a good point about pulling up manuals, but honestly most people aren't gonna do that in a pinch. The old Whirlpool dying in a couple years argument kinda falls flat too when you realize that Samsung is already obsolete in a lot of ways. Those newer machines have all these custom circuit boards and sensors that go bad way before the motor or drum even wear out. A 2005 Whirlpool is still gonna be on the road in 2035 while that Samsung will probably be in a landfill by 2027.
