I was against using a multimeter on simple stuff until a homeowner showed me something
A guy in Oak Park called me out for guessing on a fridge thermostat. He handed me his old Fluke and said just check continuity first. Now I check everything with one even on basic calls. What's the one tool you ignored for too long?

Just check continuity first" - yeah, I'm that guy who used to poke at stuff with a screwdriver like a caveman. Finally bought a cheap multimeter after my fourth fridge call in a row where I was dead wrong. Now I feel naked leaving the truck without it, even for a damn light switch.

Hang on, is the screwdriver thing really that bad? I mean, I've definitely used a butter knife to test a switch before, so maybe I'm not one to talk. @max415 reminds me of my dad, he still uses his tongue to check if a battery is dead, drives me nuts. I had to buy him a multimeter just to stop him from licking 9-volts at Thanksgiving dinner.
