Hit 1,000 fridge compressors replaced and it finally clicked
I passed 1,000 compressor swaps on a GE model back in March without even planning it. I keep a little tally in my garage notebook, just numbers and failure codes, nothing fancy. What surprised me was how many were the same exact PTC relay failure, maybe 600 of them, and the rest split between start capacitors and actual locked rotors. This matters because I stopped second guessing my diagnosis after that. I can hear that hum and know within 30 seconds if it's the relay or the compressor itself. The other thing it told me is how much faster I got, my average swap went from 2.5 hours down to 1 hour 45 minutes. Anyone else keep a running count of a specific repair? Did the number change how you price jobs or your confidence level? Has anyone else creeped past a milestone like that without noticing until they looked back?
