A customer in Phoenix told me 'you're just a parts replacer' and it got under my skin.
He said it after I diagnosed a weird fridge hum as a failing evaporator fan motor, which took 45 minutes of tracing. Has a comment like that ever made you question how you explain the job to people?

Tell that guy to try finding the hum himself next time. Bet he would just start whacking the fridge with a shoe. Some people only see the part you swap, not the hour of listening and checking wires that told you which part to grab. I start calling it "noise detective work" now, sounds fancier.

Right? It's all that quiet staring at wires that really fixes things.

Honestly it's just staring at wires and listening for a hum. People act like it's brain surgery. Half the time you're just waiting to see if a connection is loose or if something is warm. It's not that deep.
