Shoutout to the ABQ Water Authority tech who saved my basement from a $3k flood
Last Friday around 7am I heard a weird hissing from the utility closet in my house near Eubank and Candelaria. I called the Water Authority emergency line and a tech named Marcus showed up within 40 minutes. He found a pinhole leak in the main line just past the meter, said it would have burst within a day and flooded my finished basement. He shut it off, replaced the section, and charged me $180 total. My neighbor had the same issue two years ago and paid $3,200 for water damage and mold. I guess the lesson is call the utility first, not a random plumber from a google ad. Has anyone else had a close call with a hidden leak around here?

Guess the water authority has to cover the line after the meter if that's what happened but most people I know who tried that got told it was their problem once it passed the meter. Sounds like you got lucky with a tech who just went ahead and fixed it instead of handing you a pamphlet about hiring a licensed plumber. A $180 bill for a main line repair is crazy low, so enjoy it before they change their rules.
