Burque Towing quoted me $185 to move my truck 4 miles, then the driver asked for cash and no receipt
Last Tuesday my F-150 died on Coors near Montano and I called the first tow company that popped up on Google. They quoted $185 for 4 miles to my shop over on Jefferson, then the driver showed up 90 minutes late and said it was $240 cash only, no card, no receipt. I paid it because I had no choice, but a buddy told me the city has a set max rate and that outfit has complaints piling up on the BBB. Anyone know who to actually call about this, or a tow service in town that won't pull the bait and switch?
Man, that cash only no receipt thing is a huge red flag and I'm pretty sure it's not even legal for them to refuse a receipt. I saw a news story last year about tow companies in Albuquerque getting busted for overcharging and the city said they have to give you a written estimate and a receipt, so what happened to you sounds like it breaks the rules. You can file a complaint with the city's Consumer Protection office and also the state AG, and I'd call the BBB too just to add to their pile of complaints. As for a good tow company, I've heard people say good things about R&R Towing and also ABQ Towing, they give you a flat quote up front and take cards. Sorry you got played like that, 240 for 4 miles is straight up robbery.
