Warning: Crawling through a 100-year-old attic in July heat

Had a job in the historic district last week, and the homeowner insisted the main panel go in the attic. It was 95 degrees outside, so you can guess what it was like up there. I found knob and tube wiring wrapped around every joist, which meant a full rewire before I could even start. Spent three hours just clearing a path, and my drill battery died from the heat. Anyone have a go-to method for quoting jobs when you find a wiring mess like that?

Ever think knob and tube was just old but fine? I did. Then I saw a whole section crumble in my hand. Dust and brittle cloth. Realized it wasn't just a rewire, it was a fire waiting to happen. Now my quote includes a full safety check fee right away. No more guessing.

That attic sounds like a death trap. My old boss used to charge triple for attics after June.

Triple just covers the sweat equity, not the asbestos confetti surprise.
