The old trick of using a magnet to find metal studs actually caught me a bad ground wire last week

I was installing a hardwired panel in a 1980s house near Trenton and kept getting intermittent faults on zone 2... Turns out a previous installer had run the screw right through the jacket and into a nail plate. Has anyone else found weird hidden stuff behind drywall that threw off your readings?

Wait, the screw actually went through the jacket AND hit a nail plate? That's wild. I've found some crazy stuff in old walls around here too, like an old tin can used as a junction box once. But a screwed up wire that's also grounding out on a nail plate is a new level of nightmare for me. Did you end up having to cut out a big chunk of drywall to fix it, or did you manage to patch it from the other side?

God, @seanlee, that sucks. Hope you got it sorted without too much hassle.
