Old timers usually know the shortcuts that aren't in the manual.

You can bet on it. Old timer at my first job showed me you could bypass a whole startup sequence on a machine by holding down two buttons at the same time while plugging it in. Thing would boot in 15 seconds instead of a full two minutes. None of that was in any manual, they just knew it because they'd been fighting with that same machine for years. Always pays to ask the older guys if they know a quicker way before you start digging through paperwork.
