Showerthought: I keep seeing guys not torque down the main panel screws

Did a service call in Tampa last week for a false alarm. The main panel was mounted solid, but the terminal screws for the AC transformer were barely finger tight. The whole system was running on a shaky connection. I see this maybe once a month on jobs I take over. How do you make sure you're getting a solid mechanical connection every time without over-tightening?

My old foreman in Jacksonville swore by the quarter-turn past snug rule for terminal screws. It's worked for me for years without stripping anything.

Used to think that was overkill honestly. Seeing it work for years changed my mind.

That's a solid rule to follow. Loose connections cause so many needless callbacks. A quarter-turn past snug has never failed me either.
