Realized my big mistake after 3 years of installing motion detectors wrong
I used to always mount motion detectors dead flat on the wall until a builder in Austin pointed out I was missing half the coverage area. Tilting them down just 10 degrees made a night and day difference in catching movement near the floor. Anyone else ever catch a simple angle change that fixed their false alarm rate?

Wait is this like how you gotta tilt your phone camera down a bit to actually get the ground in the shot? Feels like half of fixing stuff is just realizing you've been pointing things the wrong way this whole time.

Oh man, this hits way too close to home. It's like mirrors in cars too - you spend forever adjusting them and then realize you just needed to look at a slightly different angle the whole time. I've noticed this with like, trying to figure out recipes or even directions. You think something's broken or you're doing it wrong, but really you just need to shift your perspective a tiny bit and suddenly everything clicks. It's wild how often the fix is just... looking at it differently instead of trying harder at the same thing.

Yeah @morganhill you're totally right, it's like when I was trying to follow a recipe for bread and kept adding more flour because it felt sticky, but really I just needed to wait a few minutes for the dough to rest and it turned out perfect. I wasted like half a bag of flour before I figured that out.
