Old timer showed me a trick for fishing wire through insulated walls

Honestly I was fighting with a 20-foot wall in a remodel last month and a guy I met at the supply house told me to use a glow rod with a magnet on the end instead of a fish tape. Saved me like an hour of swearing and poking holes in drywall. Anyone else run into better ways to get through dense insulation?

Ngl I read somewhere that using a shop vac with a string tied to a plastic bag works too.

Does it actually get the plastic bag to stay sealed around the shop vac hose? I've tried that trick and found the bag just tears loose or the string slips off. Without a good seal you lose a lot of suction power.
